But as he grabbed her hand he found himself within inches of her face. Both of their heavy breathing matched and their breaths danced between them.
Shane: Nobuo.
Nobuo: Shane.
In the hotel room......

Nobuo was delicate. He explored her body with his hands, running them from her bare shoulder to her hips. He wanted to remember how her skin felt to his. He brought her to him, tangling his fingers in her hair.
Both of their minds were clouded with the desire to be with each other. It was a feeling that both had been holding in but now nothing was in the way. He kissed her face, first starting at her forehead, then her eyelids, then her cheeks.
Shane rested her head on his chest and fell asleep listening to his breathing. Sleeping in the bed with her felt real. A few times he woke in the middle of the night to make sure it wasn't another dream. They were happy sleeping the night away. Nobuo: I love you Shane. The morning after......

Nobuo woke up with a small smile on his face. He tasted his bottom lip as he remembered the night before. He leaned over to the side next to him but it was empty.
Nobuo: Shane?
Nobuo went to the restroom but she was not there. He found a small note on the desk next to the window.

I'm sorry. I don't know what we were thinking.

It didn't have to say much for Nobuo to understand what it meant. He sat on the floor next to the bed.
Dia: So let me get this straight. You slept with him and then you just leave. Just like that. What are you some guy? No offense honey.
Shane: I didn't know what to do. I was stuck. I woke up and realized I slept with Nobuo who is getting married in a week. He belongs to someone else.
Dia: Well not now. You have to talk to him.
Shane: No! I can't. I can't even look at him. It's one thing to kiss but we....we woohooed.
Dia: I just have one question. Was it good?
Shane: Dia!
Dia: Well was it?
Shane: It was. It was really good.
Dia: Well good for you.
She kept having flashbacks of the night. His touch, the moments in his arms. She felt safe with him. She felt good with him. It was a lovely night. In the moment she was not worried about the next day. She wanted to be with him right then, right there. Dia: So are you going to the wedding?
Shane: No! I can't. How can I sit there and watch him marry someone when just a week before, we were in bed together. I'm not like that Diamond.
Dia: I know. But you should. That will show that Peaches girl what's what. You should go to the wedding and just as they ask, yell out "I object"!
Shane sunk further in to the seat.
It was the next morning and Nobuo returned back to his apartment with Peaches. He was not guilty for what happened between he and Shane but he was not going to tell Peaches. He walked in the bedroom and she was still sound asleep. He placed his bags down and went to his computer. Monday

Dia: I still think you should talk to him.
Shane: It will only complicate things.
Dia: Question. Has he tried calling you?
Shane: Yes.
Dia: Then why haven't you talked to him.
Shane: Cause I don't want to talk about it. It was not the right thing to do.
Dia: But you said it felt right.
Shane: I'm not a homewrecker Diamond. I can't do that. No matter how much I despise his fiance and how he is around her. He has chosen her.
Dia: Okay, okay. I won't bring it up anymore.
Shane: Promise?
Dia: I promise.
They looked across the street and decided to grab something to eat in between the shopping.
Dia: What about the wedding? Have you changed your mind?
Shane: No I have not. I'm not going. But if you can give them my gift that would be great.
Dia: I guess. Only if you let me put my name on it as well.
Diamond and Shane were enjoying the cool day. Shane was determined to stay far away from Nobuo and Peaches and let them live their lives together. She wasn't going to be the one breaking up their marriage over one night's mistake. No matter how she truly felt. She turned to Diamond when a voice caught her ear. She looked up. Her stomach turned queasy. Peaches was at the table just across from them. She heard her laugh with the woman sitting in the chair. Diamond looked in the same direction as well.
Dia: Quick! Cover our faces with the menus.
But it was already too late. Peaches saw them and waved. She excused herself from the table and went to them.
Peaches: Well goodness. I was just thinking about you and now here you are.
Shane: Me? Why?
Peaches: You being one of Nobuo's closest friends I know it would mean a lot to him to have you at the wedding this weekend. I hadn't received your reply so I was hoping to talk to you. And here you are.
Shane: Imagine that.
Peaches: So we can expect you there right?
Shane: I can't.
Peaches: Seriously?
Shane: I have something really important that weekend and had already planned to go out of town before you all made the announcement.
Peaches: You can't change it.
Shane: No. Sorry. But I will send my gift with Diamond.
Diamond gave the biggest fake smile she could muster.
Peaches: Oh well. I should have known. It was such a spontaneous thing, the engagement and all that we pretty much rushed into everything.
Diamond: Yes it was. I'm used to months engagement. But weeks.
Peaches: Well we have a really good reason for a quick nuptial. On the account of we are expecting a little Nobuo or Peaches.
She patted her belly.
Shane: Come again.
Peaches: We are having a baby.
Shane: What?
Peaches: You mean Nobuo didn't tell you. Well he's so old fashion. He doesn't want people thinking that was the only reason why we are getting married. But it's not. It's just the reason why the engagement is so short.
Shane became light headed.
Peaches: You know he's not as close with his own family so he wants to make sure we raise our little one in a good solid household.
Shane could not figure out what was going on. Her head was floating and she had to hold on to the chair to stop from getting sick at the thought of what Peaches was talking about.
Shane: Nobuo never said anything when...
Peaches: Are you talking about the party this past weekend? Yeah. I know. I think he wants to wait to announce it after the honeymoon. He's so silly.
Shane was having a hard time breathing. She grabbed the cup of water to keep from talking and blurting out more than what she wanted to.
Peaches: Are you okay?
Dia: She's okay. It must have been something she ate earlier.
Peaches: Well it was nice seeing you again. Have a great trip.
Peaches blew them both a quick kiss before leaving.
Shane: I think I'm going to be sick.
Diamond: I can't believe he didn't say anything.
Shane: He didn't. And if I would have known then.....
Diamond: Then you would not have slept with him.
Shane: I don't even want to think about it. I hate myself right now. I'm a selfish, selfish person.
Diamond: Where are you going?
Shane: Suddenly I'm not in the mood to eat. I need to get some air.
Dia: But we are outside.
Shane: Then I just need to get out of here.
Shane collected her things and nearly ran to the trolley.
She made it home and could barely walk to her couch. She was filled with mixed emotions. She was upset with Nobuo for never telling her about the baby. Upset at herself to giving in to him. Her cellphone went off. It was Nobuo again. She threw the phone, refusing to answer. She was such a fool to think that there could be anything more that night than a fling. He used her. He was going to marry Peaches and they were going to start a family. She was definitely not talking to him again. Thursday

Shane spent the last days avoiding everyone. She wanted peace and away from the questions of friends. She was not going to the wedding and refused to talk to anyone that might ask. Instead she told herself she would avoid them all until after the wedding.
She needed a quick caffeine fix. She had been working longer hours to distract herself. She stood patiently waiting to take her first sip in days. Nobuo: I've been looking for you.
Shane: Nobuo? What are you doing here?
Nobuo: I saw your car outside. I've been calling you.
Shane: I've been busy.
Nobuo: Even to just return a text?
Shane: Yep.
She took a sip of her coffee never keeping her eyes off the cup in her hand.
Nobuo: Are you avoiding me?
Shane: Look I have somewhere to go. I really don't have time to catch up.
Nobuo: Catch up? I'm not some long lost friend you haven't seen in years. Just this weekend we were-
Shane: I know. And I remember.
Nobuo: So what happened? I wake up and you're gone. And you don't want to talk to me.
Shane: This is not the place to talk about this.
Nobuo: Then when is the time Shane? I've been trying to talk to you for days now and you won't make time. So I'm here now.
Shane: Not now Nobuo.
Nobuo: Then when? I'll meet you at your house.
Shane: NO!
Shane: Look. What happened was nothing.
Nobuo: Nothing?
Shane: It was a lapse in judgement, a fling. It didn't mean anything.
Nobuo: Shane. You can't be serious. A fling? I'm not a stranger you met at a bar.
He touched her shoulder but she moved away.
Shane: You're getting married, you're going to start a family and what we did only complicates things. So I'm erasing it. It...we never happened.
Nobuo: I can't believe it. Are you listening to yourself? It never happened.
His throat began to tightened.
Shane: You and I should not have happened that night. We are friend and we should stay that way.
Nobuo: So you are going to speak for the both of us now? You know what's best.
Shane: I'm not the one getting married in two days.
Nobuo: That's not fair Shane.
Shane: Neither was what you did to me. You used me.
Nobuo: I used you? You're the one saying it was some fling. Is that all I mean to you? Shane that night, you... me...I
Shane: I have to go Nobuo.
Nobuo: Shane! Just tell me how you feel about me.
He tried to look into her eyes to see the truth.
Nobuo: Tell me. What am I to you?
Shane: I have to go.
Nobuo: Shane. If you leave, that's it. I'm not coming after you. I'm not going to bother you anymore. We are done. Not even friends.
Shane took a deep breath, straightening her stance. She reached for the door only her fingers would not touch the handle.
Nobuo: I can't be your friend anymore. Not like this.
Shane closed her eyes. She could barely make a sound. She finally gathered the words.
Shane: You have a good wedding. I wish the best for you and Peaches.
Nobuo: Fine.
He walked past her, brushing against her shoulder as he opened the door. As it slammed behind him and she finally released her breath. She wiped her face before walking out in the opposite direction.
